Art Opening at Amshot Features Artist Andrea Martin and Benefits Children’s Hospital Foundation

ExhibITion, amshot’s triannual art show for Oklahoma artists, will feature the work of Andrea Martin at an opening on Thursday, May 20 from 5pm-8pm.

ExhibITion: Art > Covid-19 will take place at amshot, 428 Dean A. McGee Ave. in downtown Oklahoma City. The gallery is free to attend. For a $5 donation, guests 21 and over can enjoy light hors-d'oeuvres, wine, and local beer from the event’s beer sponsor, Oklahoma City-based brewery Vanessa House Beer Company.

All ticket sales and 10 percent of art sales will benefit the Children's Hospital Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the health of children through its support of research, education, and clinical care at the Oklahoma Health Center.

Martin is a Native American artist from Tulsa, OK. Her abstract mixed media artwork is inspired by life, dreams, nature, and spiritually. She experiments with paint, media, and texture to create her dimensional style of art.

During the early 2000s, Andrea showed her artwork in festivals and galleries across the U.S. After taking a break of nearly a decade to become a mother and build a career as a respiratory therapist, she has returned to creating and exhibiting her work.

“I've transitioned into being a very different artist. My work now is three-dimensional and loaded with intense texture. Once I began sculpting on the canvas, I realized making flat paintings would never thrill me again,” she says.

“I chose to name this exhibition Art > Covid-19 because it's the one thing Covid couldn't take from me. Art definitely took a backseat to my day job, but it was always there waiting for me. Most pieces in this series were created during the pandemic, with some of the work being completed after I'd spent 12 plus hours working inside of a Covid-19 ICU,” she says of the new show.

Local IT services and software development firm amshot created exhibITion in 2018 to serve its core values of empowering the community, living passionately, and creating, as well as to promote local artists, give back to the community, and enjoy the company of fellow art lovers.

Three times a year, amshot features an Oklahoma artist's work in its office, host an art exhibition and sale, invites a local brewery to participate in the event, and donates proceeds to a charitable organization.
