Due to the impending impact of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which are expected to affect several communities this week, we have made the difficult decision to cancel our Casino Night event, originally planned for October 25, 2024.
In the past, we have seen how local fundraising efforts were impacted when Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. With this in mind, we believe this decision is in the best interest of our philanthropic community, as hosting the event during this time could divert critical resources and attention from the urgent relief efforts underway.
We are grateful for your continued support of the Children’s Health Foundation, and we will be sending an email out to our constituents to encourage those who can contribute to support the Breathonix project in Cystic Fibrosis. This would have been our paddle raise/Fund a Need at Casino Night which supports Dr. Donna Tyungu, CMRI Hobbs-Recknagel Endowed Chair.
Dr. Tyungu’s research is exploring the innovative use of volatile organic compounds measurement to detect Pseudomonas infections in cystic fibrosis patients. The technology's potential to improve diagnostics and revolutionize infection monitoring and treatment is ground-breaking. There is a potential that this research could expand into this technology being used beyond Pseudomonas into non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections or CF-related liver disease.
If you'd like to support the Breathonix project in Cystic Fibrosis, please make an online donation via this link or contact linzy-farrant@chfkids.com
Our thoughts and prayers are with the communities that have been, and will be, deeply impacted by these natural disasters.
